The Acupuncture Evidence Project

“It is no longer possible to say that acupuncture is effective only due to the placebo effect”:

According the the Australian Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Association (AACMA), a study in 2017 called “The Acupuncture Evidence Project “– A Comparative Literature Review 2017, found evidence that acupuncture is effective in the treatment of 122 diseases.

Here are the top 8 (These were considered to have strong evidence of the efficacy of acupuncture):

  1. MIGRAINE
  2. HEADACHE (chronic tension type + episodic)
  3. LOW BACK PAIN
  4. KNEE OSTEOARTHRITIS
  5. ALLERGIC RHINITIS
  6. CHEMO INDUCED NAUSEA
  7. POST OPERATIVE NAUSEA
  8. POST OPERATIVE PAIN.

Key results

“Of the 122 conditions identified, strong evidence supported the effectiveness of acupuncture for 8 conditions, moderate evidence supported the use of acupuncture for a further 38 conditions, weak positive/unclear evidence supported the use of acupuncture for 71 conditions, and little or no evidence was found for the effectiveness of acupuncture for five conditions (meaning that further research is needed to clarify the effectiveness of acupuncture in these last two categories). “
